CVC 6 – From fishing nets to cars and packaging: Inorganic valorization
There are many different issues to tackle for the end-of-life management of fishing nets:
- implementation of an integrated collection system, which range from the fishermen to the recycling facilities;
- sorting of the nets based on the different polymers they are made of;
- washing procedure, to eliminate biological and other contaminants, as well as to reduce the adsorbed salt from the seawater;
- grinding and pelletizing via extrusion;
- mixing the obtained polymers with additives for improving processability and performance.
EcoeFISHent will provide a circular feasible economic and environmentally solution for recycling fishing and aquaculture nets within the developed cluster. All the described steps will be faced and optimized. The recycled materials will be validated for their application in the automotive industry (to produce car brackets – polyamide) and to produce cosmetic packaging (polyethylene).
