EcoeFISHent Outcomes

The second level of the EcoeFISHent Training Framework aims to share and transfer the knowledge generated within the project, focusing on the innovative approaches, methodologies, and technologies developed to valorise fishery and aquaculture by-products.

This level provides in-depth insights into the EcoeFISHent value chains, showcasing practical applications, research outcomes, and real examples from project partners and pilots.

The use of this second level should be considered in close connection with the EcoeFISHent Background Knowledge, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the project’s scientific and technical foundations.

Training Units:

This Training Unit summarises the overall EcoeFISHent approach.

Fish side stream powders are processed to extract bioactive compounds like peptides, collagen hydrolysates, and Omega-3, which are then used to create high-value nutritional supplements.

Extracted collagen, peptides, and gelatine from fish by-products are formulated into cosmetic products, supporting sustainable and bioactive skincare solutions.

Fish-derived gelatine and other biomaterials are used to produce biodegradable packaging, enabling eco-friendly alternatives to conventional plastics.

EcoeFISHent uses black soldier fly larvae to convert fish side streams into frass, a nutrient-rich organic fertilizer, while co-products like insect oil and chitin are used for biodiesel and cosmetics, achieving full circularity.

EcoeFISHent develops biodegradable fish boxes from Expanded Poly Lactic Acid (EPLA) made from agri-side-streams, reducing carbon footprint and marine litter, with end-of-life bioconversion into soil improver, achieving a full circular loop.

EcoeFISHent recycles end-of-life fishing nets into high-quality polymers for automotive parts and cosmetic packaging, implementing collection, cleaning, sorting, and pelletizing processes to create a sustainable circular solution.
